Juno’s Ellen Page: I’m glad I wasn’t a child star

  Jan   23, 2008

Juno star Ellen Page has revealed she’s glad her parents refused to let her become a child star.

The now 20 year old actress was offered a role in a high profile sitcom when she was 13 but her parents made her turn it down, telling her she was too young to handle the pressures of fame.

While she admits to being angry at the time, she now sees their decision was “a good thing”: “I would have had to move to LA and I can’t even imagine what I would be like now. [My parents] said keep up your grades and then you can act.”

Ellen is in the running to the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the critically acclaimed teen pregnancy film.

Ellen Page remains grounded

  Jan   16, 2008

Despite landing a Best Actress Oscar nomination this week, actress Ellen Page apparently remains grounded.

“I think you can lose your equilibrium,” she told Movie Maker magazine. “But I think that has a lot to do with how your personality chooses to handle it. I mean I have my own place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and that’s where I like to spend my free time. I think being here where I’m from – which is a small city on the east coast of Canada – there’s just a different mentality here.”

In fact it seems the Juno actress reckons it’s best to stay out of the paparazzi spotlight of Los Angeles, and keep things low key.

“I think if I jumped ship and moved to LA, well sometimes you can easily get absorbed.

“I’m very grateful for the way things are going for me right now,” she adds. “I mean, really, it all feels very surreal.”

Page ‘Blown Away’ by Oscar Nomination

  Jan   15, 2008

Ellen on when she got to know that she was nominated for an Academy Award!

Young actress Ellen Page is overwhelmed by her Oscar nomination for her starring role in Juno – calling the experience “surprising” and “humbling”.

The 20-year-old, who plays a pregnant teenager in the movie, is shortlisted in the Best Actress category at next month’s Academy Awards and admits the news came as a complete shock.
She tells MTV.com, “We were coming from Paris on the train (Eurostar) and just getting to London when I heard. It was exciting. “Winning awards was something I was trying to keep out of my mind (but) it’s a surprise and very humbling. It just blew me away.” Page insists the film’s screen writer Diablo Cody was always confident that she would receive a nod for the part.
She adds, “She (Cody) text me when the Oscar nominations came out saying: ‘I told you so.’” Page will take on Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard and Laura Linney for the award at the prestigious ceremony.
